Unable To View Job Proofs

If you are not able to view your file in the proof (or in the 'New Job Creation' page), then in all likelihood a Microsoft Word document was uploaded (or something other than a PDF document was uploaded).  Our software will only display a PDF document once it is uploaded.  There are a few different reasons for this:

1.  Protection - a word document is easier to modify than a PDF document.  Meaning, when you upload a word document anyone can open that file within Microsoft Word and manipulate the text to say whatever they would like.  Since LetterStream is a fully secured facility, you do not have to worry about this happening within our care.  But a word document is more vulnerable in general.

2.  Font Substitution - If you upload a Microsoft Word document, we can always print it to PDF for you.  However, if we convert a Word file to a PDF on your behalf, there is a chance that the file could be unintentionally modified due to what is called 'font substitution'.  This can occur if a particular computer does not have access to the same font that was used on the original computer.  The corresponding result is that the computer will automatically input a different font in its place.  Often times this will cause errors within the document which goes back to the first point, a Word doc is ultimately more vulnerable to unwanted change.

Another important point to note is that using Word documents can cause a delay in processing your mail.  LetterStream uses highly technical automated processes that allow us to send your mail with extreme precision and speed.  Uploading a Word document causes that particular mailing to be removed from the automation side of things and requires us to process it manually, which in turn means that the processing time will most likely take longer than it typically would.
