Envelope Sheet Capacity
This guide outlines the sheet capacity limits for various envelope types, including considerations for different paper sizes and mailing classes. It also provides tips for optimizing your documents to fit within certain limits.
While envelopes have capacity limits, we can accommodate as many sheets of paper as you need to include. If the type of mailing selected will not accommodate the total number of printed sheets that will be included, we will automatically upgrade the envelope to the correct size. This article explains each upgrade in order.

Standard #10 Envelope Capacity
- Maximum Capacity: Up to 15 sheets of 8.5" x 11" 20lb paper.
- Usage: Ideal for smaller mailings that do not exceed this sheet limit.
If you include documents that will result in a higher sheet count that 15 sheets of paper, our system will automatically upgrade your mailing to be included in our larger, flat-sized envelopes.
Large Flat Envelope Capacity
- Maximum Capacity:
- Up to 75 sheets of 8.5" x 11" 20lb paper.
- Up to 55 sheets of legal-sized paper (8.5" x 14").
- Usage: Suitable for more sheets or when including legal-sized papers.
If your mailing includes more than 75 sheets of paper, our system will automatically upgrade it to a box shipment. This means your documents will be packaged in a sealed cardboard box to accommodate the sheet volume.
First-Class Mail box shipments do not include tracking. Certified Mail box shipments will be automatically upgraded and sent via USPS Priority Certified Mail, and will include tracking.
Important: USPS Priority Certified Mail is not an option you can select on our website as a stand-alone product. It is only included automatically when your mailing exceeds capacity limits.
Optimizing Document Layout
If you'd like to keep your sheet count down, duplex printing will do just that! Duplex printing will print your documents on both sides of the sheets, effectively cutting the total printed sheet count in half. For example, a 150-page PDF document printed duplex will be printed on 75 physical sheets of paper.
