Certified Mail Barcode

Every certified mail item sent via LetterStream includes a Certified Mail barcode and tracking number.

  • Purpose: Enables USPS to provide real-time status updates and delivery confirmation.
  • Visibility: Clearly printed to be viewed through the windowed envelope of certified mail pieces.

2D Barcode

A small 2D barcode appears next to the recipient address on nearly every mail piece.

  • Purpose: LetterStream use only—speeds up processing and improves mailing accuracy.
  • Additional Info: May be accompanied by light gray tracking numbers, which can also appear in the upper-left or right-hand side of each printed sheet.
  • Note: The preview shown in your proof will reflect where these items are placed.

IMB (Intelligent Mail Barcode)

The IMB is a USPS-provided barcode used for sorting mail efficiently.

  • Purpose: Facilitates faster delivery through automated USPS routing.
  • Appearance: Located either above or below the recipient address.
  • Current Use: Not applied to all mail types yet but will be increasingly used going forward.
