Want to add a custom message to the outside of your envelope?

For regular #10 mailing envelopes, LetterStream offers a Custom Overlay Printing - #10 Envelope option. This allows you to add custom text or messaging to the outside of the envelope.

Please note that custom envelope overlays are only available for regular sized #10 envelopes and #9 return envelopes, and are not available for flat envelopes at this time, but there are some workarounds listed below.

Add a Custom Overlay to a #10 Envelope

For regular #10 mailing envelopes, use the Custom Overlay Printing - #10 Envelope option to add custom text, messaging, a logo, or other artwork to the outside of the envelope.

Common uses include messages such as:

• Important Documents Enclosed
• Homeowner Statements Enclosed
• Other wording specific to your mailing

To add a #10 envelope overlay:

1. Create your mailing and continue to the Inserts Review page.
2. Click Add an Envelope.
3. Scroll to Upload a New Custom Envelope or Overlay (PDF file only).
4. Select Custom Overlay Printing - #10 Envelope.
5. Upload your PDF artwork.
6. Review your proofs carefully before approving the mailing.

Your artwork will be printed as an overlay on the #10 outer envelope.

Because #10 envelopes use specific window placements, your artwork must remain clear of the return address and recipient address windows and meet USPS requirements. If you'd like a template to use, feel free to send us an email and we'd be glad to assist.

If you only want to add a logo or company branding near the return address, the Return Address Logo Option will likely be a better fit.

Note: Custom envelope overlays are not available for flat mailings.

Envelope Endorsements

Certain LetterStream products allow you to add a shorter custom endorsement or message without creating a full envelope overlay.

For example, some return envelopes and postcards allow you to enter custom endorsement text while creating your mailing.

If an endorsement option is available for the product you are using, it will appear during the mailing setup process.

Custom Return Envelopes

LetterStream also offers customization options for certain return envelopes.

Depending on the envelope, you may be able to:

• Add custom endorsement text
• Add overlay artwork
• Upload client-provided envelope artwork

Available options will appear when you click Add an Envelope from the Inserts Review page.

Flat Envelopes

Custom #10 envelope overlays are not available for flat mailings.

However, you can still add a short endorsement or custom message to many flat mailings using one of these options:

• Extra Line: Add your message using the Extra Line field on the Return Address page.
• Coversheet Endorsement: On the Job Inserts Review page, click the pencil icon on the envelope thumbnail and enter your endorsement in the available field.

The endorsement will appear on the coversheet and show through the flat envelope window.

Important Guidelines

• Custom overlay artwork must be uploaded as a PDF.
• Keep artwork clear of envelope windows and USPS-required areas.
• Always review your mailing proofs carefully before approving your job.
