Canceling Delivery Of A Letter

Getting Started

Once a job has been approved and paid for, there is a brief window of time in which it can still be canceled. However, once the job has been mailed, neither LetterStream nor the USPS has the ability to stop the delivery.

This article explains your options and limitations regarding cancellations after mailing approval.

Cancellation Window

After a job is paid for, you may still be able to cancel it before production begins. If the job is still eligible for cancellation:

  • Click EDIT to see the “Pause Job” or “Stop and Shred Job” options.
  • If neither option is available, production has already begun.

Once your job is actively being processed, cancellation may no longer be possible without a fee.

What Happens After Mailing

Once your mailing leaves our facility and is handed over to the USPS:

  • It cannot be intercepted, recalled, or stopped.
  • Letters are in the control of the USPS and will be delivered as addressed.

Important USPS Note

Although the USPS offers a Package Intercept service, it is not available for the types of letter products sent through LetterStream (e.g., First-Class, Certified Mail).

Tips to Avoid Issues

  • Carefully review all documents and address information before approving and paying for your job.
  • Be sure to review the proofs provided to ensure content accuracy.
  • Consider using the Pause Job feature if you suspect any errors prior to being mailed out.
