Getting Started

If you're starting your letters from scratch and plan to mail them through LetterStream, we offer helpful tools and templates to simplify the process. You can either use our downloadable templates or the Letter Automator tool available directly within your LetterStream account to create your letters online.

Using Our Letter Templates

We provide two downloadable templates to help you format your letters. These templates have:

  • Recipient (To) and Return (From) addresses already placed in the correct location
  • Layouts designed specifically for our First-Class windowed envelopes

To ensure proper alignment with our envelopes, do not adjust the address placement or font size within these templates.

Address Placement and Formatting

If you're designing your own letters:

  • Make sure the return and recipient addresses are placed exactly where they appear in our templates.
  • This placement ensures that addresses will show through the windows on our envelopes, which helps avoid delivery issues or delays.

Handling Pre-Formatted Documents

If your documents are already created and the addresses aren’t in the recommended location, that’s okay!

  • You can still upload and mail them through LetterStream.
  • Our system will automatically add a coversheet to ensure the address information appears correctly through the envelope windows.

Note: Coversheets add an extra page per recipient and cost $0.10 more per letter.

Avoiding Coversheets with the PreFlight Tool

To avoid the use of coversheets (and save $0.10 per recipient):

  1. Use the PreFlight Tool in your LetterStream account.
  2. Navigate to: My Account  > PDF Tools  > PDF PreFlight  
  3. Upload your document and confirm if the addresses fall within the required address window zones.

If your addresses are correctly positioned, you can proceed without needing coversheets. For more information, click here.
